Taylor Chip, which has five locations throughout Pennsylvania, is opening two new stores in Philadelphia.

Taylor Chip, the Lancaster-based cookie company, is expanding to the Philadelphia market with two stores opening here this month, writes Michaela Althouse for PhillyVoice.

The two new Philadelphia stores will be located in Rittenhouse Square and Fishtown, respectively.

The Rittenhouse location is set to open on 1807 Chestnut Street on September 14, while the Fishtown store on 1828 Frankford Avenue will open a week later on September 21.

The Philly stores will be the first Taylor Chip locations to offer ice cream in addition to its two dozen flavors of cookies and coffee.

Taylor Chip was founded by husband and wife Sara and Doug Taylor. After starting off baking together for fun, attempting to remake a favorite Crisco-based cookie recipe into one that used butter instead.

Their cookies are known to be thick and moist, with a slightly crunch exterior.

“We wanted a thick, dense, gooey, huge cookie,” Sara said.

The two have wanted to expand to the Philly market for years, and are embracing the opportunity to do so now.

“We think Philly people will show up, and we’re really excited to build a footprint around here and build some roots,” Doug said.

The Rittenhouse will be mostly a to-go space, while the Fishtown spot will have about a dozen seats.
