The Philadelphia Phillies recently submitted to the Philadelphia Art Commission a proposal to build a 7,014-square-foot expansion of the New Era team store, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Phillies’ art commission letter proposed two-floor expansion that would be constructed primarily within a portion of an existing landscaped area adjacent to the current team store. The plan also includes converting “existing stadium gross floor area” into retail use.

In addition, the Phillies noted six existing trees will be removed from the landscape area, while the remaining landscaped area will be infilled with low-lying plants and vegetation to allow for increased visibility of the store.

The idea is for the proposed expansion to match the existing team store facade.

The current New Era store sells items such as replica jerseys and other team apparel for men, women, and children, and exclusive souvenirs and products like Phillies branded pet bowls, garden flags, and jewelry.

The proposal comes just months after the Phillies added a new out-of-town scoreboard in right field prior to the start of the season.

The expansion plans listed Philadelphia-based Ewing Cole as the architect and Pennoni Associates as the civil engineer for the new proposal.
