After 56 years, Michael’s Restaurant in Falls Township, near Morrisville, had its final call on Saturday as it closed its doors for good, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer. 

Owner Michael Galasso, who is almost 85, gave his final tableside performance as he prepared his famous Caesar salad for two smiling customers before hanging up his apron. 

Galasso started the restaurant with his brothers in 1968 as Villa Sorrento. Early on, the establishment was a nightspot where guests could enjoy dinner and a show with famous names such as Count Basie, Frank Sinatra Jr., and Ray Charles stopping by to perform. 

More recently, Michael’s Restaurant was a quaint, white-tablecloth dinner house that had a delicious Italian menu, a neighborhood bar with sports on the TVs, and a banquet hall. 

After nearly six decades in the business, Galasso decided it was time to retire. Now, he plans to hit the golf course. 

“I used to be really good,” he said. “Then I had a heart attack last year and had two stents put in.” 

Now that the restaurant is closed, the building will be torn down and replaced with a self-storage center.
