La Salle University’s New State-of-the-Art John Glaser Arena Nears Completion
La Salle University is celebrating the near-completion of its new John Glaser Arena, writes Jeff Neiburg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
There are quite a few differences between the new basketball arena and the pre-renovated once in which the last basketball game was played on March 2.
The building’s entrance and path up the stairs to the third-floor arena are the same. However, once you swing the doors open, you’ll notice the court is oriented horizontally when you walk in as opposed to entering the court from the baseline.
There are also new LED lights and air conditioning inside the area.
La Salle’s athletic director Ashwin Puri can hardly hide his excitement.
“This is the most dramatic old-to-new rebuild that I’ve been a part of,” Puri said. “I like checking boxes. I like things being linear. I just like to get [stuff] done.”
Other new features include a hanging scoreboard and a high-performing sound system, as well as a luxury suite named for the late John Glaser, a 1962 La Salle graduate, that will be positioned at half court. Beyond the LED lighting, RBG lights will also allow the arena to be lit in any color on the spectrum and enable logos to be projected onto the court.
