Gov. Shapiro Continues to Boost PA’s Life Sciences Industry

By

Gov. Josh Shapiro once again emphasized his dedication to boosting Pennsylvania’s life sciences industry by continuing to take “concrete actions” during the the Life Sciences Future event, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The event, organized by industry trade group Life Sciences Pa, took place earlier this week in King of Prussia.

“The work you do every day in the field really matters,” said Shapiro. “My administration is all-in when it comes to life sciences, supporting the industry and lifting it up.”

Shapiro, who made life sciences one of five key pillars in the ten-year economic development plan he unveiled at the start of the year, praised local biotech and pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers for being successful in making health-improving discoveries and advancements “without a meaningful, coordinated effort and investment” from the state.

Shapiro said he has already taken several steps to make it easier for those companies to work with the state, including appointing Ben Kirshner to the newly created position of chief transformation and opportunity officer.

“Think of this guy as the person who figures how to get things done from point A to point Z,” he said.
