A new ranking compiled by the Burning Glass Institute puts University of Pennsylvania among the top five colleges for finance salaries, writes Kailyn Rhone for The Wall Street Journal.

The goal of the ranking is to determine what effect someone’s school has on his or her salary, given that the career choice and the number of years in the field are the same.

To determine the average salaries that graduates earn within the first 10 years out of college, Burning Glass analyzed data from Lightcast, a labor-market data firm, and Glassdoor.

With an annual salary premium average of $39,092, University of Pennsylvania ranked in fourth place, narrowly missing the $39,094 average of the third-placed Princeton University.

The school has 12.65 percent of finance graduates, the highest percentage among the top 20 schools.

Meanwhile, the top university for finance salaries in the United States is Massachusetts Institute of Technology. MIT graduates who go into finance earn an average annual salary premium of $48,051.
