The Tyrese Maxey Foundation recently pledged to donate $1 million to youth organizations in Philadelphia, writes Sean Kennedy for Liberty Ballers.

Tyrese Maxey and the Foundation announced its charitable endeavor during its “Friends and Family” weekend from August 1-4.

The “Friends and Family” events included a Night of Giving mixer and dinner at Fitler Club on Thursday; a golf tournament at Union League Golf Club on Friday at Torresdale; and a skills camps for children between the ages of 7 and 12 at St. Joe’s Prep on Saturday.

He closed the weekend with the announcement of his new $1 million donation.

Maxey was especially eager to make this contribution thanks to the new 5-year, $204 million contract extension he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in July.

“The last thing I said [at that dinner was] I’m thankful for the Sixers for the opportunity that they blessed me with,” Maxey said. “Because now I can go out and give to others, as well. And give even more.”

Maxey’s philanthropy is a family affair.

He established the foundation in 2021, about a year after his late grandmother, Mimi, who emphasized philanthropy, passed away.

Maxey’s parents, Denyse and Tyrone, are both on the board of directors, while his uncle Brandon McKay in helping his nephew’s ideas come to fruition.
