Temple's Katz School of Medicine is seeking to open New Central Pennsylvania Campus in 2027. It would be its third campus overall.

Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine has signed a memorandum of understanding with WellSpan Health to create a third campus for Temple’s medical school, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

It is being proposed to open in York County in August 2027, with 40 students, 100 faculty members, and 30 staff. The plan is to allow Temple to expand its reach into Central Pennsylvania.

Temple would occupy a building in East York that currently houses York-based WellSpan’s administrative offices.

It would mark Katz School’s second regional campus, coupled with its campus in Bethlehem with St. Luke’s University Health System and its main Health Sciences Center campus in North Philadelphia.

WellSpan put out a request for proposals years ago to secure a medical school partner, and ultimately chose Temple.

“It really allows us as a school to secure and expand our educational programming and training opportunities for our students,” Katz School Dean Amy Goldberg said.

The WellSpan York Hospital will serve as the initial clinical site for the school. Katz students will be able to use all WellSpan hospitals for their training and education.
