Hotel Anna & Bel Preparing for August Opening in Fishtown
The 50-room Hotel Anna & Bel, Philadelphia’s newest boutique hotel brought to life by Foyer Project and operated by Life House, is slated to open in Fishtown in August, writes Regan Stephens for Travel + Leisure.
The building has historic roots and was once a communal living home called the Penn Asylum for Indigent Widows and Single Women.
“Throughout the renovation process we worked with the Preservation Society of Philadelphia to emphasize and honor the property’s rich architectural history while breathing a new design life into the space with modern amenities and features,” said Dor Berkovitz, co-founder and managing partner at Foyer Project.
The new design takes inspiration from the building’s history with elements that lean into the “inherent femininity of the property,” he added.
The boutique hotel is filled with oil paintings, illustrations, and mosaics by both local and international artists. Meanwhile the rooms, which range in size from studios to two bedrooms, either have a kitchenette or a minibar.
The outdoor space was designed to feel like an escape from the city. The leafy courtyard with its heated pool draws inspiration from both French and chic Mediterranean influences giving it a coastal oasis feel.
