Independence Blue Cross Again Recognized as One of Region’s 50 Most Community-Minded Employers
For the fourth consecutive year, Independence Blue Cross has been named an honoree of The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.
This recognition — in partnership with globally recognized nonprofit Points of Light, as well as the Philadelphia Foundation as lead partner — celebrates companies that exemplify civic leadership. Modeled after Points of Light’s national program, the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia evaluates and recognizes civic-minded companies using their time, talent, and resources to create positive change within their organizations and communities.
IBX’s submission included information about the company’s many community engagement efforts, including the Blue Crew volunteer program, corporate charitable sponsorships, and the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.
“At Independence Blue Cross, we are committed to our mission to enhance the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Stephen Fera, IBX’s Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and President of Government Markets. “This recognition is a testament to our mission-driven approach and longstanding efforts to make a positive impact in our region.”
The 2024 Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honorees represent a diverse group of private and public entities, nonprofits, agencies, and institutions (e.g., hospitals and universities) in the 11-county Greater Philadelphia area. Selection criteria are based on four key aspects of their community engagement program: investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems, and impact measurement. Since 2011, the national Civic 50 has provided a national standard for superior corporate citizenship and has highlighted how companies drive advancement in their business and the community.
“The chamber is proud to recognize Independence Blue Cross as a 2024 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia,” said Chellie Cameron, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. “Each of this year’s honorees are valued members of Greater Philadelphia’s business community, exemplifying what it means to be a positive corporate citizen and demonstrating the power of service. We thank Independence Blue Cross for their efforts to drive impact and congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”
