Elmwood Park Zoo Unveils State-of-the-Art Facility for 100th Anniversary

By

In celebration of its 100th anniversary, Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, is set to unveil a new, state-of-the-art facility this Thursday that will allow visitors to witness veterinary care like never before, writes John McDevitt for KYW Newsradio.

The 39,000-square-foot welcome center, part of a multimillion-dollar development, is designed to enhance visitor engagement and education on animal health and conservation.

The highlight of the new facility is its extensive viewing capabilities, where guests can watch veterinary procedures in real-time.

The setup includes a surgical suite, diagnostic lab, recovery wards, and an in-house pharmacy, with every procedure room equipped with camera-fitted lights to project activities onto large screens for guests.

The Frank & Paige Engro Veterinary Health Center includes a mixed-purpose radiology and general treatment room.

It boasts Pennsylvania’s first CT scanner capable of accommodating animals up to 650 pounds.

The facility opens just in time for Elmwood Park Zoo’s centennial festivities.
