Collegeville’s Lucy Olsen to Replace Caitlin Clark as Iowa’s Point Guard

By

After three stellar seasons at Villanova, Collegeville native and Spring-Ford High School graduate Lucy Olsen will replace Caitlin Clark as University of Iowa’s point guard, writes Scott Dochterman for The Athletic.

Olsen has the same competitive fire as her world-renowned predecessor who currently leads the WNBA in assists as a rookie and similar love for the game.

“You can tell she just loves basketball,” said Iowa senior guard Sydney Affolter. “She loves to be here. She loves getting after it. But she’s so hard-working. In scrimmage, she’ll push you and not take it easy on anyone.”

The 5-foot-10 Olsen wrapped up last season as third in Division I in scoring, with 23.3 points per game.

While she has big shoes to fill compared to Clark, Olsen appears unaffected by stepping in for the back-to-back consensus national player of the year.

“I’m not going to be a Caitlin Clark,” she said. “There’s not going to be another Caitlin Clark. She’s amazing, and she’s done such great things here.”

“I think it’s more just pressure internally of, all right, do the best you can and if you do that, then there’s nothing else you can give,” she added.
