The African American Museum in Philadelphia Hosting Conversation About Women Shattering Glass Ceiling of Politics
On Wednesday, June 19, the African American Museum in Philadelphia will host an empowering evening conversation with two groundbreaking women in the political scene.
The event is titled, “Shattering the Glass Ceiling: African American Women in Politics,” and features two Black women who can speak personally about the topic as they share their experiences and perspectives on breaking barriers and shaping the future.
It will feature Joanna McClinton, who last year, became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
McClinton has been a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 2015, working her way up from Minority Leader and Majority Leader before being elected Speaker.
She will be joined by Keisha Lance Bottoms, who served as the 60th Mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022. She was the sixth African American and second African American woman to serve as Mayor of Atlanta.
After making the decision not to seek a second term, Lance Bottoms served as Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the Office of Public Engagement under President Joe Biden’s Administration.
The discussion will be moderated by the acclaimed journalist and CEO of SO’B Productions, Soledad O’Brien.
The “Shattering the Glass Ceiling: African American Women in Politics” event will take place Wednesday, June 19, from 6 PM to 7 PM, and is free and open to the public.
