Pennsylvania has at least 20 cat cafes, and three of them are located in Philadelphia.

Since the first cat café opened in Taiwan in 1998, the concept has evolved around the globe including at least 20 in Pennsylvania, writes Kalena Thomhave for The Keystone.

Philadelphia has three of them.

In South Philadelphia, there’s Get a Gato Cat Cafe. The coffee shop is a Colombian-inspired café with specialty coffee drinks and tasty food options like arepas and guava hand pies.

The café and cat lounge are located in separate areas, allowing customers to get food without a cat room reservation.

South Philly is also home to Whiskers Cat Café. The relatively new addition to Philly’s cat café scene has more than 20 cats looking for new homes. While it isn’t a full food-and-drink establishment, individuals who pay to visit the cats get free coffee, tea, water, and Wi-Fi.

In Brewerytown, Le Cat Cafe, a project of Green Street Rescue, can be found. The resident cats are all adoptable from the rescue.

Here, reservations are recommended and can be made online for both visits and events, like cat yoga.

Le Cat Cafe doesn’t have a full coffee bar, but guests can purchase a beverage like coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or cider, with the drink included in the visit price.
