Pelbano Recreation Center, which broke ground in Northeast Philadelphia last October, recently received a $1.3 million investment from Rebuild Philadelphia.

With the new investment, Pelbano Recreation Center has a new interactive playground, refreshed multi-sport courts, and upgraded equipment for everyone to enjoy.

“Because of the Rebuild program, the Rhawnhurst neighborhood has a safe, accessible, and enjoyable outdoor space to utilize this summer and beyond,” City Councilmember Brian O’Neill.

Rhawnhurst is renowned for its activity community and the recent improvement at Pelbano will serve to help further support a healthy and active lifestyle.

Mayor Cherelle Parker highlighted that the investments Rebuild is making is part of her Administration’s promise to bring high-quality parks and playgrounds to communities across the city.

“We know these much-needed improvements will promote active lifestyles and outdoor activities in a healthy and safe space for our children and youth,” she added.

For Rebuild, this investment is only the beginning.

“It is vital that we continue to invest in providing every community with clean, green, and safe spaces that cultivate creativity, joy, and unity,” said Aparna Palantino, director of the Capital Program Office at Rebuild.

Pelbano Recreation Center is named after George C. Pelbano, a dedicated community advocate who oversaw the Rhawnhurst Athletic Association for 40 years. The recreation center was named in his honor in 2003.
