It seems Wawa’s annual Hoagiefest and Phillies leadoff Kyle Schwarber are magically linked. 

The two became inseparable back in 2022 during Schwarber’s first year with the Phillies, writes Gabriela Carroll for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Wawa summer tradition of discounted sandwiches runs June to August and in 2022, Schwarber had his best month in June when Hoagiefest kicked off.

He delivered 12 home runs and 27 RBIs.

During the 2022 playoffs, Wawa brought back Hoagiefest, renaming it Schwarberfest, hoping to supercharge Schwarber once again. It did.

He hit the longest homerun of his career off Yu Darvish in the first game after the promotion started.

In the World Series Schwarber hit .250 with three home runs, and four RBIs, a great improvement from his wild-card and division series slump.

“I guess I’ll thank Wawa for the Schwarber thing,” said Bryce Harper after the Phillies’ Game 4 victory against San Diego.

In 2023, when Hoagiefest came around again in June, Schwarber saw his OPS jump from .668 in May to .853.

This season, Schwarber’s already having a bit of a hot streak even before Hoagiefest started June 17.  

That hot streak could soon get even hotter.
