New Boutique Hotel with Original Art Installations in All Rooms Coming to Kennett Square
Artelo, a new boutique hotel with an “immersive art experience,” will open its doors in Kennett Square on July 11, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The 14-room establishment will open in the space that was previously home to the Birch Inn, which closed in 2017.
Square Roots Community Initiative, also known as Square Roots Collective, purchased the property last year. The nonprofit works to advance and invest in the Kennett Square area.
Each room in the new hotel will feature an original art installation made by one of the fourteen regional artists chosen by the nonprofit. The aim is to provide an art experience for guests that is fully immersive while also highlighting local artists and artisans.
“Artelo is more than just a hotel, it is an invitation to discover Kennett Square through a new and exciting artistic lens,” said Stephanie Almanza, the project lead for Artelo.
The hotel will be internally managed by Michael DePaulo, Square Roots Collective’s Director of Hospitality, who has over two decades of experience managing hospitality venues.
Artelo is part of the larger revitalization plans for Birch Street by the borough.
