Temple’s Beasley School of Law Receives $5 Million Gift, Will Create Endowed Deanship
Temple University’s Beasley School of Law recently received its second-largest gift ever, a $5 million donation, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Joyce Kean, a former Philadelphia Common Pleas judge and Temple alumna, along with her husband, Dr. Herbert Kean, gave the school the donation, which will be used to create an endowed deanship.
Temple Law Dean Rachel Rebouché will serve as the inaugural Kean Family Dean.
She noted that the endowment came after multiple conversations with the Keans, where she highlighted that Temple Law needed to do a better job of getting the message out about the schoo’s virtues. It connected with her belief that the school is poised for growth.
From there, the Keans encouraged Rebouché to think big and that culminated with the $5 million gift.
“It’s funding that will help us attract a really talented class with scholarships, to reimagine some of our space that we use, to make really important investments at a time when the competition for students and staying on top of the changes in legal practice really puts a lot of stress on law schools,” Rebouché said. “And this is a gift that allows us to pivot as those changes happen.”
