Philly Rapper and Singer Lay Bankz Makes Debut on Billboard Hot 100 List
Lay Bankz, the Philadelphia born-and-raised rapper and singer has landed on Billboard’s Hot 100 list for the first time in her short career, writes Xander Zellner for Billboard.
The 19-year-old musician’s breakthrough single, “Tell Ur Girlfriend,” debuted at No. 58 on the list.
Released on February 7 on Artist Partner Group, the track entered the Hot 100 almost entirely from its streaming sum of 8.8 million official U.S. clicks in the April 12-18 tracking week, according to Luminate.
“Tell Ur Girlfriend” has soundtracked over a million videos on TikTok, where Bankz’s profile has gained considerable traction, boasting more than 3 million followers.
One version of the song has been used in over 800,000 clips, while another has contributed to over 300,000.
The official audio has been used in more than 30,000 videos.
Prior to “Tell Ur Girlfriend,” Bankz burst onto the scene with her single “Ick,” which has been soundtracked more than 200,000 TikToks.
Both songs have been aided by viral dance trends.
The Southwest Philadelphia native has released more than a dozen songs dating back to 2022, and released her debut seven-track EP Now You See Me in August 2023.
