WSJ: During His Time in Office, Gov. Shapiro Earns Reputation of Being Competent, Pragmatic, and Sure-Footed

By

Since he took over as the Governor of Pennsylvania, Upper Dublin’s Josh Shapiro has earned a reputation for being competent, pragmatic, and sure-footed in a crisis, writes Salena Zito for The Wall Street Journal

“My job is to keep people safe, and my job every day is to get s— done,” he said in an interview. “Particularly in a time of emergency, you need to take control of the scene, you need to assess the damage and what is needed to be done, and then put your team in place to go and do it.”

And he has delivered. After the February 2023 Norfolk Southern train derailment, Shapiro summoned the company’s CEO to his office and arranged for restitutions to be paid.

When a tanker-truck fire destroyed a bridge on Interstate 95 in June, experts said it would take months to rebuild it. However, Shapiro convinced the local building trades to stay on the job 24/7 to finish the repairs. In the end, the bridge was reopened after just 12 days.

As a result, his name has arisen as a potential presidential candidate in 2028.
