This past Friday, May 10, Eastern University hosted a ceremony to celebrate the Groundbreaking of Templeton Hall (formerly Workman Hall).

Over 100 attendees gathered on the St. Davids campus to witness the beginning of this exciting new renovation and expansion project at Eastern.

“The groundbreaking ceremony was an exciting and significant moment for our community,” said Brian Williams, Dean of the Templeton Honors College and the College of Arts & Humanities. “I am thrilled to be at a university that recognizes the role the humanities play in shaping our students and the world around us and is committed to advancing our programs with the space, tools, and resources to help them thrive.”

The Templeton Hall renovation and expansion project, announced earlier this year, will include classrooms and communal spaces for all students, and serve as a hub for those in the Templeton Honors College. The addition will also include a recital and performance space, as well as an art gallery for students in the Fine and Performing Arts programs.

With the renovation now underway, the Eastern community looks forward to having a new home for its meaningful, intellectually stimulating campus events and speakers, as well as perspective-shifting art displays from our students and other inspiring artists.

“We are deeply grateful for the generous donations that have brought us to this point,” said Ronald Matthews, President of Eastern University. “Last week’s groundbreaking ceremony allowed us to come together as a community to express gratitude for those blessings that will propel us forward with momentum and intentionality.”

The Templeton Hall expansion is part of Eastern’s exciting new campaign, A Time to Rise, a comprehensive fundraising initiative to celebrate Eastern’s centennial in 2025 and support its vision for the next 100 years. The campaign also builds upon a larger vision — Eastern’s five-year strategic planInspire, Innovate, Impact, that was kicked off in 2022 and serves the purpose of propelling the university into its next chapter of successfully preparing graduates to impact the world through faith, reason, and justice.

The University invites donors and partners to join in this exciting chapter by making a gift that will have a lasting impact. Learn more about the renovation and expansion at Eastern University, a Christian university enrolling approximately 7,500 students in its undergraduate, graduate, and seminary programs. The University’s main campus is located in St. Davids, with many programs available online.
