Movement Gyms feature walls for bouldering and rope climbing, a yoga studio, and areas for cardio and weights.

Movement Gyms, which already has a location in Callowhill is planning to open its second Philadelphia location in Kensington by the end of next year, writes Chris Compendio for PhillyVoice

Similar to its other existing locations, Movement Gyms’ Kensington location will feature walls for bouldering and rope climbing, a yoga studio, and areas for cardio and weights. More than half of its 41,109 square foot space will be dedicated to climbing.

“We look at the climbing space in Philadelphia, and there’s not a lot of climbing opportunities in the core of Philly,” said Sharon Cooper, the senior director of marketing at Movement Gyms. “[Central Philadelphia doesn’t] have tall climbing walls and rope climbing options, so we want to provide that experience.”

The Kensington gym will be located at 1700 N. American Street.

In addition to being a fitness area, Movement also offers differing and complementary services and experiences for climbers.

Its Callowhill location has also served as a space for community meetups.

“We want to create a space for people to make connections,” said Donald Schmit, the gym director at Callowhill.

Movement Gyms currently has more than two dozen locations nationwide.
