Coatesville Could Be On Its Way to Becoming Culinary Hotspot

By

Coatesville seems to be in the midst of a restaurant renaissance and is well on its way to becoming the next culinary hotspot in the Philadelphia region, writes Gina Lizzo for The Hunt.

One of the more recent additions to the city’s growing restaurant scene is Kings Tavern. Owners Phil and Kate Ferro have transformed the space that was once Mr. E’s Tavern & Fine Food into an eatery befitting royalty.

The restaurant, which opened in 2022, is the couple’s “gem in the rough,” with fully remodeled dining rooms and a significantly-improved bar.

The Ferros are involved with two more projects in downtown Coatesville. The soon-to-open Steel City Brewing — in the former YMCA building — will supply beer to the couple’s other establishments. Meanwhile, the nearby former National Bank of Coatesville is now being transformed into 30 Prime Seafood & Chophouse under Phil’s direction and is expected to open next year.

He believes 30 Prime will represent the cornerstone for continued growth along the downtown strip.

“I really believe people will be fighting over all those vacant buildings and storefronts in the very, very near future,” he added.
