Every Friday and Saturday, workers at the Share Food Program warehouse in Hunting Park stack boxes of food marked for low-income area seniors.

It’s one of the two largest food bank operations in the region, along with Philabundance, and is the largest DoorDash operation in the world, writes Alfred Lubrano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Share Food Program sends out more than 1,000 deliveries of food boxes via DoorDash over twice a week and two hours each day, averaging around 4,500 a month. 

Its deliveries within four weekly hours outnumber more than 400,000 stores and restaurants in 7,000 cities throughout 25 countries, according to figures from DoorDash executives and delivery-industry experts.

“It’s pretty incredible what Share has developed,” said Daniel Riff, DoorDash senior manager. “They have a remarkable pickup operation.”

Eligible seniors receive one box per month via DoorDash. The box includes canned goods, cereal, juice, and other shelf-stable food purchased by the federal government. Deliveries also include cheese.

As the need has grown, Share Food Program executive director, George Matysik noted this is just the beginning.

“The ultimate goal is to someday be able to deliver food to all people in need, 24 / 7 — not just seniors,” he said.
