A Philadelphia Eagles Jacket Worn By Princess Diana Brings Satisfaction to Eagles Fans
During her time in the public eye, Princess Diana’s wardrobe had long been a popular topic of discussion, writes Janine Henni for People.
Sports gear was something the Princess would incorporate into her wardrobe as a way to add a level of normalcy to her life.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Princess Diana could be seen wearing a Philadelphia Eagles bomber jacket, which was given to her by Eagles’ statistician Jack Edelstein.
The two of them became connected at Princess Grace of Monaco’s funeral in 1982. Prior to becoming a movie star and princess, Grace Kelly was a Philadelphia native who grew up in the East Falls neighborhood.
Given that Diana’s favorite colors were green and silver, the Eagles jacket suited her tastes.
“Diana loved to be different, this was her style,” said Ken Wharfe, who served as her bodyguard from 1988 to 1993.
While the whereabouts of the jackets today are up in the air, Eagles fans are touched that someone with Diana’s stature and importance would represent their hometown team.
Longtime Eagles play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese shared such sentiments.
“This fan base will be loyal to anybody who buys into their Philadelphia Eagles,” he said.
