Manayunk Chambers Named Top Bed and Breakfast Spot in Philadelphia
Manayunk Chambers Guest House has been ranked as the top bed and breakfast in Philadelphia by TripAdvisor for the fourth consecutive year, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.
The owner, Mark Jerde, considers the boutique hotel his pride and joy.
He turned a former church into a bed and breakfast, and now resides in the building with his husband, Neal Orzeck. The guest house has been in Orzeck’s family since the early 20th century.
Jerde had the idea of turning the Orzeck family heirloom into a top B&B since 2004, but it didn’t happen until 2015.
Jerde has years of experience as a pastry chef.
Each morning, guests can savor a delectable baked platter made by him, from chocolate croissants to pumpkin and pecan muffins, cranberry scones, and more.
Jerde received some resistance from the Manayunk community upon opening the B&B. However, he has overcome them to develop a reputation as the owner as the top B&B in the region.
“It feels very rewarding having the accolades that I’ve received,” Jerde said. “I [was able] to prove to myself that I was able to do it.”
His goal now is to expand with a second property he plans to call Manayunk Quarters.
