It’s Official. Philadelphia Eagles Center Jason Kelce Is Retiring
Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is retiring. He made a public announcement Monday that he is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Kelce, a Haverford Township resident, made the announcement during a Monday afternoon press conference.
“I will always cherish this brotherhood, the relationships they fostered, and how unique an experience it has been to enjoy the field with you all,” an emotional Kelce told a room full of family members, coaches, players, and reporters.
Kelce spoke for 30 minutes. He talked about the impact of his wife, Kylie, praised line coach Jeff Stoutland and spoke lovingly of Philadelphia, where he spent his entire career since he was a sixth-round draft pick for the Eagles back in 2011.
“It’s only too poetic I found my career being fulfilled in the city of brotherly love,” Kelce said. “Some people struggle to play in the city. They can’t handle the boos, the media, or our fans. I consider it a great blessing to play in the most passionate sports town in America.”
“At times, you hate it as an athlete, especially those new to our city. But when you’ve been through it enough, you learn to appreciate it.”
