For Many Local Shoppers, Amazon Offers Convenience, But Also Some Guilt
Many Chester County shoppers have a love/hate relationship with Amazon, and are trying to at least reduce their spending at the e-commerce giant, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Gabby Southworth, of Paoli, decided to cancel her Prime subscription several months ago when she assessed the rising costs of the many subscriptions she was maintaining. She was only ordering from the company’s website a few times a month, and she was no longer sure that the service was worth it.
The 28-year-old administrative assistant still purchases items from Amazon several times a month. Usually, those are specific items in a “value pack” quantity, like a particular oatmeal she likes or dog food. In general, it is items that she has trouble finding on shelves of nearby stores.
She shops for clothes elsewhere, like Target or Anthropologie, around once a month, and she has been trying but failing to kick her Instacart grocery shopping habit she became used to during the pandemic.
However now, she is working on cutting back on all her online shopping.
“It is so convenient, which I love, but I kind of feel guilty and lazy for not going in person,” said Southworth.
