Cloud Cups has opened a new location in Kensington.

Cloud Cups recently opened its new flagship store in Kensington, writes Michaela Althouse for PhillyVoice

The new store offers 36 gelato and sorbet flavors, grab-and-go options, and merchandise.

According to owner Galen Thomas, the new 3,300-square-foot space will also include an event venue and serve as Cloud Cups’ production facility.

While Cloud Cups already had its production facility in the area, Thomas said an opportunity arose with his landlord to move into a bigger space that would allow him to open a second store.

With nearby successes, such as Càphê Roasters and Cantina La Martina, he sees the area as one that provides a lot of opportunity.

“There’s not really a lot of places in this area that offer any gelato or frozen desserts besides Mr. Softie,” said Thomas. “So we wanted to bring something to the neighborhood that isn’t already here.”

Cloud Cups started in 2018 as a CBD-infused gelato option sold at stores across the country.

In 2023, it opened its first store at the former Little Baby’s Ice Cream location on Frankford Avenue, which is currently closed for remodeling to match its new Kensington store.

Thomas hopes to continue trending in the right direction, which could potentially lead to opening more stores.
