New Jersey’s Washington Crossing State Park to Unveil $14M Visitor Center Ahead of America’s 250th Anniversary

By

The New Jersey side of the historic area where Gen. Washington crossed the Delaware River is getting a $14 million makeover just in time for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026, writes Michael Tanenbaum for the Philly Voice.

Construction for the new visitor center at Washington Crossing State Park will start this month. The facility incorporates a curved design and a green roof, providing vistas of the Delaware River, and a series of trails around the building.

The inside of the building will include a multipurpose theater that includes immersive, educational exhibits about The Revolutionary War.

The initial stage of the project will include clearing trees of the surrounding area.

The design for the center is courtesy of Ikon 5 Architects, with financial support derived from business tax revenue via the Preserve New Jersey Act.

The 3,500-acre park also includes a nature preserve, historic structures, Revolutionary War exhibits, and an open-air theater.
