2024 Marks 60 Years Since The Beatles’ First Arrival to the United States, Philadelphia
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first time that The Beatles first arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, marking the group’s first time on U.S. soil, writes Larry Kane for KYW Newsradio.
Kane would travel with them and watch 56 of their live concerts.
The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein had big plans for them from the start.
“I never thought they would be anything less than the greatest stars in the world, and I mean that,” said Epstein.
Two days after initially arriving in the U.S., they were live on the first of three consecutive Ed Sullivan Show appearances, with more than 75 million people watching.
On Aug. 31, 1964, the Beatles stopped in Philadelphia for a show at Convention Hall.
Their popularity was through the roof.
For the Beatles, their fans were everything.
Kane got to spend a lot of a ton with the Beatles during their visit, and shares many memories. However, the most poignant memory he has is from their second tour.
“It’s been fantastic. We’ll probably never do another tour like it. It could never be the same as this one,” John Lennon said. “It’s just been, you know, probably something we’ll remember the rest of our days.”
