As of Monday, Feb. 26, SEPTA Key Card users will be able to pay fares for up to five riders with a single card, writes Mike DeNardo for KYW Newsradio.

For instance, riders who may want to pay the fares of out-of-town visitors with several taps of one SEPTA Key card can do so.

This is a feature that riders have long desired.

According to SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch, the multi-rider feature will only be available on the SEPTA Key card to start, but not yet with debit or credit cards or payment apps.

“Like a lot of things with the SEPTA Key, we start out in kind of a pilot mode to make sure that it’s working well,” he said.

Riders who want to use the feature will have to call a special phone line to set it up.

In time, riders will be able to register for the multi-tap function online.

That, however, is not yet a feature.
