Philly Musician Adam Blackstone Could Win Two Grammys During 66th Annual Award Ceremony
Adam Blackstone has yet to win a Grammy, but he is up to potentially win two of them during this year’s Grammy Award ceremony, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
“I’m nominated for two under my own name, for Best Jazz Performance and Best Jazz Instrumental Album,” he said.
Exactly one week later, Blackstone will be lending his musical talents to the Super Bowl.
So, it’s safe to say it will be quite a busy February for Blackstone.
Blackstone comes from a family of musicians.
His musical training began in church, where his father was the organist, his uncle played the drums, his godfather was on bass, his mother was in the choir, and his auntie was the choir director.
“With that kind of background, my parents allowed me to follow my dream, whereas so many parents push their kids into something more ‘stable,’” he said.
Blackstone moved to Philadelphia in 2000 to study jazz performance at the University of the Arts. Despite living in Delaware since 2005, he still goes to Philly nearly every day, as the rehearsal studio he uses is in South Philly.
He plays a long list of instruments, including drums, bass, piano, tuba, sousaphone, and organ.
If Blackstone wins a Grammy on Sunday, he expects it will make him cry.
