Wawa Hopes Chocolate and Hoagies Are a Good Combo

The sweetest place on Earth may soon also have Wawa hoagies if a Hershey store is approved, writes Sue Gleiter for Penn Live.

Wawa wants to secure a store location in Hershey territory, at Cocoa Avenue and Fishburn Road in Derry Township.

The proposed store is part of Wawa’s plan to expand its presence in central Pennsylvania in the Harrisburg area where once only Sheetz ruled.

The Hershey Wawa would be located at a former bank.  Wawa has submitted preliminary sketch plans with Derry Township, showing a 5,585-square-foot store with a fueling station.

Wawa still needs to file preliminary/final land development plans with the township. Those plans will need the approval of the township’s planning commission and board of supervisors.

The Delaware County convenience store chain has been on an expansion campaign for a few years now, with aggressive plans to expand in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina.

It is planning to open 40 stores in central Pennsylvania over the next three to five years.

Other proposed stores being developed for the Harrisburg region include Lower Swatara, Swatara, and East Pennsboro townships, as well as Chambersburg and State College, among others.
