For Philly Artist Shemar Pierre, Music is About Creating Something That Will Last
Shemar Pierre is a 25-year-old artist who became interested in expanding his horizons as an artist while a student at Thomas Jefferson University, back when it was Philadelphia University, writes Deesarine Ballayan for Billy Penn at WHYY.
He started as an animation major and later became interested in the sounds that bring animation to life.
From there, he started experimenting with music and knew that he wanted to perform.
“I wanted to create an art piece that could stand alone,” said Pierre.
Upon coming to that realization, he reached out to fashion designer Julia Silver about creating an art show out of his five-song album, “ENIGMA.”
While the show happened, Pierre didn’t like his sound.
Moreover, he wasn’t sure how he wanted to sound.
It wasn’t until his next project, “NEXUS :: Discipline,” that he found a sound that he liked and would stick with.
From there, Pierre started working in actual studios with various producers, videographers, and photographers from all over the country to help him bring his dream to life, while they did work they enjoyed.
With the new project, Pierre said, “Now I was going to put out a body of work that would stand the test of time.”
