There are a plethora of new restaurants, bars, and cafes already set to open in Philadelphia this year, and some of them are already generating major excitement among future patrons, writes Ernest Owens for Eater Philly.

When it opens this month, Two Locals Brewing Co. in University City will become the first Black-owned brewery in Philadelphia. Brothers Richard and Mengistu Koilor have been experimenting with various brews for years, and are now finally opening their own location. Fishtown’s Liberty Kitchen is on board to run the brewery’s dining program.

BlackHen in Old City is a new fried chicken BYOB from Felicia Wilson and her chef partner Darryl Harmon, the duo behind Amina in the same neighborhood.

Seaforest Bakeshop will open in February in Graduate Hospital. The cozy café and bakeshop will feature Korean-influenced treats, cakes, and much more.

Meanwhile, Bucatini Caffe in East Passyunk, an Italian BYOB by Chef Chris Miller and Dejvi Furxhi, is expected to be ready in time for Valentine’s Day.

In March, Chef Tyler Akin of Delaware’s Le Cavalier will open a Mediterranean all-day cafe Bastia in Fishtown.
