Ensemble Investments and Mosaic Development Partners are working together in hopes of bringing a Hyatt hotel to the Navy Yard, writes Ariana Perez-Castells for The Philadelphia Inquirer

There is great optimism and hopes of opening the hotel by 2026, when Philadelphia will be hosting the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary.

The events are estimated to bring thousands of tourists to the city.

While the firms are still working to secure the necessary equity to make the project possible, they are clear on what they hope to gain from it.

The new hotel is expected to have about 18,000 square feet of meeting space to host conferences and other large gatherings, and include an outdoor courtyard and ballroom.

According to Mark Seltzer, managing director at Ensemble, those kinds of event spaces are lacking in this area of the city.

He hopes the hotel will attract weekend travelers, luxury businesses, athletes, and performers.

Once built, the hotel would be called The Waylen, which comes from an old English word for “skilled craftsman” or a “maker.”

It would be the second hotel in the Navy Yard, joining the Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia South.
