Eastern University Launches New Online Master’s Program in Marriage and Family Therapy
Eastern University has launched a flexible and affordable Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program that will prepare students to work clinically and skillfully with individuals, couples, families, and communities.
Eastern’s M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT) is 100 percent online, with courses designed to fit into a student’s busy schedule through the university’s innovative LifeFlex model. This model offers a convenient, creative, and supportive learning environment that allows students to work at their own pace.
“The M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy program is more than an academic degree,” said Dr. Susan Edgar-Smith, Dean of Eastern University’s College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. “It is a journey that empowers the student to pursue their educational goals while maintaining a robust personal and professional life. Whether you are juggling family responsibilities, work, or other commitments, our flexible coursework accommodates the diverse needs of our students and enables them to balance academic pursuits with their personal lives.”
Eastern’s MAMFT is taught by clinical professionals who integrate theory with clinical practice to enhance the student’s learning experience. With an emphasis on holistic practice, the program integrates systemic theory with faith, reason, and justice to create a perspective of marriage and family therapy that promotes self-awareness and insight regarding individual beliefs and biases.
Within the program, students are equipped to display cultural humility and explore ways to promote diversity, equity, and belonging in their clinical work with varied client populations and marginalized groups.
“This program is designed to welcome a wide array of students who are interested in being trained to bring reconciliation to broken relationships and foster hope and positive change in the lives of individuals, couples, and families,” said Dr. Sherri Humphries, MAMFT program director. “The MAMFT program has a strong emphasis on both theory and clinical practice from a uniquely self-reflective lens that addresses how one’s personal beliefs, faith, and values impact the practice of marriage and family therapy.”
