Walking into Suplex Vintage Wrestling in South Philadelphia can be compared to walking into a wrestling time machine, writes David Auguste for 6abc.

“When people come here for the first time their eyes light up. It’s kind of like a slice of wrestling heaven,” said Woody Kumetat, brand manager for Suplex Vintage Wrestling.

The kinds of memorabilia to see at the store range from t-shirts of just about every wrestler from WWE, ECW, WCW, and other promotions; to hundreds of action figures; nearly every championship title from those promotions; and far more.

Kumetat said that the inspiration to launch this venture stemmed from simply a love of wrestling.

ECW was headquartered in Philadelphia during its existence. As a result, Kumetat wanted the store to capture Philly’s status as the heart and soul of the wrestling community. 

Wrestlemania XL is also coming to town in early April, so the spectacle will open the door for more visitors outside the city to experience Suplex Vintage Wrestling. 

“At the end of the day, what we want is to try to give people an experience and we want a place where wrestling fans can come and nerd out about wrestling,” said Kumetat.
