SEPTA is renaming its transit lines, including the Market-Frankford Line, its subway, and trolleys, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

The Market-Frankford Line will be renamed the “L.”

The soon-to-be-former Broad Street Line subway will be renamed the “B,” with a B1 designation for a local, a B2 designation for an express, and B3 for the spur train.

The subway-surface trolleys will be known as the “T,” and the route numbers that have long been associated with each trolley will be replaced with numbers. 

Route 10 will become T1; Route 34 will be T2; Route 13 will be T3; Route 11 will be T4; and Route 36 will be T5. 

The Route 15 trolley, however, will be known as the “G.”

There will also be color changes, as well. 

The blue shade that has long signified the Market-Frankford Line and the green for the subway-surface trolleys will become brighter, while the green used for the Route 15 trolley will now be blue. 

“SEPTA is constantly at work making our system better, more efficient, and easier to navigate for all who ride,” reads a SEPTA announcement. “Replacing long, inconsistent names with simple letters and colors eliminates language barriers, streamlines the entire system, and creates consistency that supports easy navigation.”
