Mayor-Elect Cherelle Parker Names City’s New Commerce Director, City Solicitor

Alba Martinez will lead the city's commerce department, while Renee Garcia will be the city solicitor under the Cherelle Parker administration.

Philadelphia’s Mayor-Elect Cherelle Parker’s administration is taking shape, as she has named her choices as the city’s new commerce director and city solicitor, writes David Chang for NBC 10 Philadelphia.

Parker’s choice for commerce director is Alba Martinez, while her choice for city solicitor is Renee Garcia.

Martinez previously served as a senior executive for global investment company, Vanguard, where she managed the company’s largest client group while serving as head of retail client services.

She is also a co-founder of Magnolia Impact Solutions, founder of Street Knowledge, and held previous roles in non-profit and government sectors.

Her appointment in her upcoming role makes her the first Latina and member of the LGBTQ+ community to lead the city’s commerce department.

Garcia, on the other hand, has served as Chair of Litigation in the Philadelphia Law Department since 2021.

In her work, she counsels city work groups and helps with defining, implementing, and assessing legal and policy issues for City agencies.

During her tenure, she helped launch of some of the City’s most impactful cases to combat gun violence, protect affordable housing, and fight against companies polluting the environment.

“I am proud to have two exceptionally qualified Latina women as members of my Cabinet,” Parker wrote in a statement.
