GingerBread Lane is the creation of Jon Lovitch.

It’s typical for Reading Terminal Market to draw major attention during rush hour, but there’s been one particular attraction that has caught more attention during recent rush hours, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer

That is GingerBread Lane, the creation of Jon Lovitch, a professional chef turned full-time, self-taught gingerbread man.

Under the auspices of his three-decades-old company, Lovitch builds four such displays each year.

He started in 1994 with a 14-house display at the Hyatt in Kansas City, Missouri, and it has grown to various other U.S. cities from there.

This year was his debut at Reading Terminal Market.

He hopes it can become an annual thing because Lovitch believes Philadelphia is already a pretty good Christmas-destination town.

GingerBread Lane, which debuted on November 22, will remain at Reading Terminal Market through January 2.

The venue welcomes more than 500,000 visitors between Thanksgiving week and New Year’s, making it one of the busiest times of the year.

For that reason, market CEO and general manager Annie Allman wanted to do something special for the holidays.

“We really wanted to make sure that, for families, there was something fun and free to bring them into Center City,” she said.
