In a moving display of gratitude and remembrance, the Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey Chapter of Folds of Honor recently brought the joy of the holiday season to the families of fallen and disabled service members and first responders through the gift of education. During the pandemic, Folds of Honor shared a video called Christmas Surprise, that captures these poignant moments, showcasing the true spirit of the season.

Founded in 2007 by Lt Col Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot and PGA Professional, Folds of Honor has been steadfast in its mission to provide educational scholarships to the spouses and children of those who have fallen or been disabled during their service. To date, the organization has awarded over 51,000 scholarships, amounting to more than $240 million, touching lives in all 50 states.

This Christmas, the Eastern PA & NJ Chapter of Folds of Honor continues this legacy. Though scholarships are typically given in the summer and available funds were exhausted, 25 new scholarship recipients are being presented with their award letters thanks to additional donations from the region.

Two recipients are Anyah Reid and Allie Bradley.

Reid is from Sicklerville, New Jersey, and majors in Forensic Psychology at East Carolina University. She hopes to become a forensic psychologist and help youth in the juvenile system. Reid’s family member is Air Force Senior Airman David Reid who proudly served his country for seven years. He specialized as a Corrosion Control Specialist and Tactical Aircraft Mechanic. He received many awards and decorations for his service, including the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

Bradley is from West Deptford, New Jersey, and majors in Biology at Penn State University. She hopes to pursue a career in scientific research. Bradley’s family member is Army Sergeant First Class Arthur Bradley who proudly served his country for 29 years. He worked as a Master Marksmanship Instructor and Crew Chief for Cobra, Blackhawk, and Huey helicopters. He deployed on multiple tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. SFC Bradley received many awards and decorations for his service including the Senior Aviation Badge, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

These donations ensure the continuation of the educational journeys for these special family members. Each scholarship represents not just financial support, but a nation’s acknowledgment of the sacrifices these families have made. Each family was asked to capture their moment so a new video will be created to share with our donors, showing the impact and meaningfulness these scholarships impart on military families.
