As 2023 nears a close and the holiday season begins, Independence Blue Cross encourages consumers to enroll in a healthcare plan by Dec. 15 to secure coverage starting on Jan. 1, 2024. Anyone in Pennsylvania who does not have healthcare coverage through an employer or a government program can enroll in health insurance for themselves and their families through the Pennie exchange or directly at IBX.

IBX also recommends that consumers not wait until the last minute to enroll in health insurance to ensure they receive their new member ID card by the start of 2024.

“Ensuring that members of the community are adequately covered for 2024 is a crucial part of protecting the health and well-being of our neighbors,” said Koleen Cavanaugh, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Independence Blue Cross. “Having quality health insurance is a critical step in maintaining good health, and we want to emphasize the importance of timely enrollment to ensure uninterrupted coverage as the new year approaches.”

Affordability and Tax Credit Availability

IBX remains committed to providing a wide range of health plans, offering comprehensive healthcare coverage and the region’s strongest network for quality healthcare. Pennsylvanians who do not have health care coverage through an employer or government program may qualify for premium tax credits to lower their monthly premiums for 2024.

For those who have not applied in the past, IBX recommends consumers look to see if they are eligible for tax credits. IBX’s website includes a subsidy calculator to help consumers determine if they qualify for financial assistance to lower their monthly health plan premiums. Pennie will make the final determination of tax credit or premium subsidy eligibility.

Important Dates to Remember 

• Dec 15: Deadline to enroll in a health plan for healthcare coverage effective Jan. 1, 2024.
• Jan. 15, 2024: Open Enrollment ends. This is the final day individuals can enroll in healthcare coverage for 2024.

IBX-licensed agents are available by telephone at 1-888-475-6206 (TTY: 711) to answer questions and help consumers enroll in healthcare coverage from Monday to Friday, 8 AM-8 PM, Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM-5 PM, except major holidays.

Online

Consumers can visit IBX.com to find the health insurance that is right for them and enroll in a health plan directly with IBX. The state-based exchange, Pennie, is the only place consumers can enroll in health plans with financial assistance, and Pennie will make the final determination for tax credit or premium subsidy eligibility.

In person

Consumers can visit Independence LIVE on the second floor of 1919 Market Street in Philadelphia to meet with a licensed agent and enroll in a 2024 health plan, Monday to Friday, 8 AM-4 PM, except major holidays.
