McGillin’s Celebrates Phillies Playoff Run By Reviving its Red Beer
As the Philadelphia Phillies sit one win away from a potential second straight trip to the World Series, fans who visit one popular Center City tavern can chug a Red October-inspired beer, writes Franki Rudnesky for Phillyvoice.
McGillin’s Olde Ale House, Philadelphia’s oldest continuously operating tavern, is bringing back its red-dyed beer in celebration of the Phillies playoff run.
This is the second year the tavern has made this particular beer available; the first being last year when the Phillies made it all the way to the World Series before losing to the Houston Astros in six games.
This Red October drink costs $4.50 for a pint and $10.50 for a pitcher.
McGillin’s has introduced several Philly sports-inspired food and drinks over the years, including a green-dyed beer honoring the Philadelphia Eagles, and a blue-dyed option for the Villanova Wildcats men’s basketball team.
There is also the “Philli-tini,” a vanilla vodka mixed with pineapple and cranberry juices with a red-sugar rim and orange wedge; the “Phanatic Drop,” with Jim Beam whiskey, apple liqueur, and hard cider; and the “High Hopes” with gin, bitters, tonic, and a lime wedge.
McGillin’s also offers a shepherd’s pie with a Phillies logo plastered onto it.
