A South Philadelphia Ikea Always Puts Customers at the Forefront
The Ikea located on the Delaware River waterfront prioritizes Philadelphians in as many ways as possible, writes Asha Prihar for Billy Penn at WHYY.
The idea of adhering to the needs and tastes of its local customers is an Ikea staple that has been its philosophy from the very beginning.
This Ikea is no different.
“We just want people to see themselves within the store,” says Kate Helton, the shop design manager at the South Philadelphia Ikea. “And if you live in Philly, you know that we have a unique way of doing things, we have a unique set of needs and circumstances.”
This particular Ikea includes living rooms designed to mirror a South Philadelphia rowhome, Rittenhouse Square condominium, renovated Fishtown house, Washington Square apartment, and bedrooms resembling those in Point Breeze, Northern Liberties, and other neighborhoods.
The team uses both real estate websites and personal experiences to come up with the most accurate designs for its customers.
Throughout the decade she has been in the area, Helton has lived in various types of homes, including an apartment, rowhome, loft, and standalone house.
