Philadelphia Eagles & Operation Warm Donate Sports Bras to Student-Athletes Across the Delaware Valley
The Philadelphia Eagles recently joined forces with the Operation Warm nonprofit to donate 30,000 sports bras to female student-athletes in need, writes TaRhonda Thomas for 6abc.
The bras were specially crafted for young women athletes as part of the initiative to support girls’ access to youth sports. The first set of bras were distributed at Northeast High School in Philadelphia on Friday.
The giveaway was preceded by a panel discussion with some of the biggest names in sport, including Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, world champion boxer Laila Ali, World Cup soccer champion Carli Lloyd, and Philadelphia’s Qiana “Star” Wright, a women’s tackle football pioneer.
The panel repeated the need for the removal of barriers that could stop girls who want to play sports, such as having no access to the proper equipment.
“We want to make sure that you guys hold the torch and keep it going for the future because you are the future,” said Wright.
The panelists shared stories with girls who are athletes at Northeast High School that resonated with them.
“I couldn’t imagine playing without a sports bra,” said Lloyd. “It’s part of your kit, right?”
