Several Philadelphia breweries are among the thirty best craft breweries to visit in Pennsylvania, according to Food & Wine.

Crime + Punishment Brewery is set in Brewerytown – an area that got its name from the many breweries that were located there in the 1800s – and while its name evokes the great Russian literature of the past, its beers hew a little more modern American.

Some of its best brews include Tremendous Upside Potential and Space Race. The brewery also offers delicious food.

Yards Brewing in Spring Garden is a classic Pennsylvania brewery and a Philadelphia institution that dates back to 1994. Friends Tom Kehoe and Jon Bovit got their start by selling their homebrews at Grateful Dead shows.

Their early brews, such as ESA and Entire Porter, were inspired by their English brewing knowledge. The pair was able to expand the capacity in 2001 by buying further buildings in Kensington. By 2010, they even had a tasting room.

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, including its Germantown and Center City locations, has been around for a while. Each of the brewpubs boasts its own equipment and brewmasters who brew on-site.
