Tapster, a new bar that recently opened in Center City, is welcoming patrons with an airy and light-filled atmosphere and 54 self-service taps, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In addition to a wide variety of beers, Tapster also has taps for wine, batch cocktails, spiked teas, juices, cold-brew coffee, and much more. The thinking behind self-service is that it allows visitors to sample drinks at their own pace.

The new spot offers food in the way of popcorn and reheated empanadas, but most of the menu is handled by the Happy Rooster, the bar across the street. Customers can scan a QR code and their food is then run across Sansom Street.

The process at Tapster is simple. You walk in and present your ID and credit card at the counter. The bar opens a tab for you and provides you with a “tapcard,” which is linked to your credit card, to activate the taps.

You can then peruse the menus on TV screens or directly at each tap. Then you pick up a glass and pour yourself a drink. You are charged by the ounce.
